Yellow Face.
Hwang Goes in Many Directions.
By Robert M Massimi. ( Broadway Bob).Published 7 minutes ago • 3 min read
Robert M. Massimi.
"Yellow Face" at the Todd Haimes Theatre is a difficult play to review in many ways. David Henry Hwang has made himself the lead actor, and he fills the story this semi-autobiographical story with lots of real life people that were involved in the "Miss Saigon" musical ruckus. Even though Hwang is detailed about the occurrences that shrouded the 1991 Tony Award Musical, the play's bad guy is made up and the writer doesn't reveal this until the show's end. First produced in 2007 at The Public Theater, the play focuses more on the laughs than it did back at The Public.
In "Yellow Face", Hwang (Daniel Dae Kim) is writing "Face Value" in response to the yellow-face casting of Johnathan Pryce in his first Broadway debut of "Miss Saigon". Being the first Asian American to have a play produced on Broadway, Hwang had some clout in getting Cameron Mackintosh to cancel the production. Hwang was an important voice, until he wasn't any longer. The show opened and proceeded to win multiple Tony's.
In the audition for "Face Value", Hwang wants to cast Marcus. G. Dahlman (Ryan Eggold), but others think that he does not look Asian. To Hwang's dismay, he calls racist to "Stereotype" Asians as having a certain look and build. Where this scene was more serious at The Public, it plays here for pure laughs.
The play's best- written scenes take place between Hwang and his father (Francis Jue). Jue is delightful in his role as a successful banker in Los Angeles who prizes his success and the American dream above all else. As the founder of Far East National Bank, he came to America and worked pressing laundry. To himself, he is the quintessential American dream; he quotes both American actors as well as American singers (Sinatra and Jimmy Stewart are two of his favorites).
Director Leigh Silverman works well with the talented cast; the actors for the most part keep us entertained for the one hour forty five minutes. Silverman did a better job here than when she directed this show at The Public.Where The Public had an intermission, this show does not. Anita Yavich are very plain and uninspiring. Lap Chi Chu's lighting design ran from glam to edgy. Arnulfo Maldonado's sets were creative and the blending of the sets with the scene's melded well. For the most part, "Yellow Face" was a good play for the most part. (at the 55 minute mark till the hour-five minute point the show slowed up quite a bit).
Taken on its face value, Hwang makes some resonate points about typecasting and how things are done in the theater world. Hwang, however, omits many factual points in his body of work: while he quotes yahoo Republican Congressman verbatim, he leaves out that Mr. Hwang hired Tom Bradley, then the mayor of Los Angeles, as a consultant. Mr. Bradley had also received a loan from the bank and at the same time secured $2 million in city funds. Hwang tells the audience that America killed his fathers dream and virtually killed him; that he ended up cursing the country that made him wealthy beyond his wildest dreams.
When reporter Greg Keller asks Hwang pointed questions, he comes off like a villain... he portrays the reporter as having a distorted idea of Asian Americans. Like so many liberal-minded writers, Hwang turned the reporter in a antagonist. He paints the white male reporter as a hater, as does so many plays that lean into the PC today on Broadway.
Hwang borders on hypocrisy when dealing with the "Miss Saigon" issue. In M.Butterfly he casted a cis gender to play the spy and not a transgender. He also never credited the real writer of "M.Butterfly", NY Times writer Joyce Wadler who reported the actual affair. The 1993 nonfiction book "Liaison" was used a source material for M.Butterfly and Wadler was never credited in the show's Playbill.
Broadway, Tony awards, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Roommate, McNeal, M.Butterfly, Sunset Boulevard, Romeo and Juliet, The Outsiders.

Mc Neal
"McNeal" Illusion vs Reality. What is the best play in this very early fall theater season, "McNeal" at Lincoln Center, has Robert Downey Jr, playing Jacob McNeal. Mr. Downey was custom made for this role; his firebrand, rapid fire style as the Nobel Laureate for Literature keeps the pace flowing for the one hour- forty five minute intermission-less play.

Art Inspires: a challenge
What kind of feelings does the above artwork evoke in you? Can you express them in words? If you are viewing this page as a Vocal creator, then the answer to this question ought to be an emphatic YES, even if the picture does not appeal to you. If you are a reader of stories such as this, and don't think of yourself as a story-writer or poet, then perhaps now is a good time to think again.

Unveiling the Radiance of Synthetic Diamonds Jewelry
Synthetic diamonds jewelry has gained immense popularity in recent years due to its affordability, ethical production, and stunning brilliance. Unlike natural diamonds, synthetic diamonds are created in a controlled environment using advanced technology, yet they possess the same physical and chemical properties as mined diamonds. As the demand for sustainable and exquisite alternatives rises, synthetic diamonds jewelry offers a perfect blend of luxury and environmental consciousness.

"Oh some fan you are. You clearly didn't see our world tour concert. " Pryce teased a bit. "But yeah, I did. I was just overwhelmed with emotions. I'd just performed my solo, which I did What's Love Got To Do With It by Tina Turner and they handed me a mic to talk while the guys got ready for the next set. I looked out into the crowd and saw all theses signs from a fan group that said Happy Birthday Pryce Hyung. And I started to tear up. Then I saw my family and just kind of lost it. Its the first time I'd ever talked about losing my parents and being adopted since I became an idol. Dae-Son had to come out and change the mood by having the entire crowd sing happy birthday to me."
Pryce cleared his throat, feeling a bit of color touch his cheeks. "Sa-ha is terrifying. Shes very stern and is the definition of if looks can kill, but she means well. Plus in her defense she's in charge of a bunch of idiots who also happen to be stupid popular."
Pryce leaned in, ghosting his lips Yunho's. "I guess that's true. Good thing I like the occasional bad boy.." He whispered before closing the gap.
coldsnp:
A smile spread along Pryce’s lips at the kiss. He turned his head to place his lips against Yunho’s head. “It’ll be okay. Once you get that debut all the nerves will go away. Then it’s all about awards shows, and comebacks. Then you’ll get your first tour. Then your first world tour. Piece of advice, don’t ugly cry if you do a concert in your home town.” A soft laugh left Pryce’s lips.
“I love Sa-Ha, and she’s fantastic at managing our group but taking flattering photos isn’t exactly in her wheelhouse. We have a few staff who take the photos on set and such but all the candids are done by me. That’s the only reason the world has pictures of On The Edge in crazy pajamas. Plus who do you think takes all of the cat pictures?”
Pryce added the rest of the ingredients to the pot; joining Yunho on his side of the stove. “It means. This is beautiful and innocent.” He booped the other on the nose. “But this,” He ran his thumb over his boyfriend’s bottom lip. “Is a bit filthy.”
“Did you ugly cry in you home town?” Yunho asked with a smile.  “That is adorable”  he said as he looked over the pot to see what Pryce was doing.  “Hmm I wish I could cook.  I can do instant ramen and that is about it.  Oh i do do a mean omelet”  He nodded as he sat back agian to let Pryce work.
“So Sa-ha Is your manager what is she like?  Mine is nice a bit of a push over tho when I told him we I was coming here he just said be careful.  I was expecting a lecture about dating scandal’s or something.  Not that he knows im dating you just my members do”  he said quicky.  “Sorry if that causes problems.
Yunho laughed when he was booped on the nose and shook his head.  “It is rather filthy at times”  He nodded.  “Cant be innocent all my life”

Teagan rolled his eyes. “I’m not self harming again,” he said. “I promised you guys it was over. See?” He bared his forearms, which were smooth aside from the scar on his ledt wrist he’d acquired at the end of their eighth grade year. However, Aria also noticed the bones of his wrist sticking out, and how thin his arms seemed compared to last month. She looked up at Pryce, who was shaking with rage. “There are other forms of self harm, Teague,” he spat. “You’re not eating. You’re not sleeping. Also you do is sit out here and train and you’re going to die because of it.” Teagan cast his eyes down, their color hidden begind his lashes. “I’m fine guys. Really, you don’t have to worry about me.” Aria stepped forward and embraced him. He stiffened. “You’re not fine,” she whispered. “And that’s ok. It’s ok to be not fine every once in a while. But please, let us worry about you? If we don’t who will?”

“All of us were binging on the energy drink before getting on the stage, really did some nerve wrecks on us” So he understood completely why Pryce would decline such drink and he went ahead to grab two bottles of Asahi for them. “Thanks by the way, Yuna is losing her mind after our performance saying that she did a mediocre job so I will pass your compliment to her” The perks of having a vocalist who is hypochondriac really does see perks of them taking any compliments or criticism from their friends who attend the show. Hand extended out to hand the alcohol to Pryce while he himself taking a swig on it.
“Do you come alone or your members are here with you two?” He looked around the vicinity just in case he might have missed familiar faces. “But thanks again, you came in since the first performer or mid-way?”
Tumblr media
“No, it’s just me tonight.” Pryce said accepting the beer with thanks. “Dae-son is locked at the studio with Seon-ho. He’s been struggling with the latest choreography. Seon-ho refuses to let him out of the room til he gets it down.” Pryce place the bottle against his mouth, taking a sip. “Which may mean OTE will be a duo by the end of the night.” He couldn’t help but let out a light chcukle. “Chul-san refused to come out of his room. I believe his exact words were, ‘Prycehyung! I require beauty sleep. I am too young to  be working this hard. Leave me be til the sun comes up again.”
He couldn’t make this up. “You can tell Yuna that a member of Starship's top boy band says you all were fantastic." Pryce playfully threw a thumbs out to the other. "From the beginning. I have this thing about being punctual and on-time."

Let's be real Pryce is the true leader in On The Edge he may be 2nd (3rd in OT5) oldest but he cares for, and leads, the guys the most. Dae-Son is a bit too cold and stoic and mostly uses intimidation to get everyone in line. (This is in NO WAY a diss to Junseo in OT5)
Pryce wakes everyone up in the morning. He makes 90% of their meals. He can usually get Chul-san in line easier than Dae-Son. Pryce makes sure that they are all in the car on time for their schedules. He is also the one who imposed the fee for being late.

Hi OTE members! Please tell us your song of the week!
"I can answer this one." Dae-Son said slightly annoyed. "Pryce has been listening to Waiting for Us by Stray Kids since it came out. Seon-ho has been listening to BOP! BOP! by Viviz non-stop. I've been relaxing to ,(comma) by kiyuhn"

In the Canon established with @starsmaligned /@furubazdc Seon-ho is the first member of On The Edge to get married. He and Han Gyeol do not have an engagement period. Han Gyeol and the guys plan a secret wedding behind Seon-ho's back. Seon-ho is tricked into thinking that they are getting ready for a final OTE event, since the band has already announced their disbanding. He quickly finds out that it's actually a wedding with all the guys families attending, various other idols and people in the industry and a few leaders of Edgeneration fan clubs.
Hua Xian is the second member of their friend group to get married. He marries llyr shortly after Pryce, Dae-Son and Seon-ho get back from their military assignments. They have a very short engagement since llyr won't let Hua xian propose this the hyungs return.
Pryce and Elio get engaged a few weeks after Seon-ho and Han Gyeol's wedding, at the ote going away party. They get married after Hua Xian and Llyr.
Dae-soj more than likely gets married last. Not including Chul-san (npc, muse not featured here) who gets married in secret, after finding dome girl who thinks he's actually charming. Dae-Son more than likely marries another idol since he's the only member of ote to continue in the business
